Steubenville’s Income Growth Outpaces the Nation — A Sign of Local Momentum

Steubenville continues to show encouraging signs of growth — and the numbers back it up. According to the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, Steubenville’s median household income rose from $42,725 to $47,057 between 2022 and 2023 — a 10.1% increase in just one year.

For comparison, the national median household income grew about 4% over the same period.

While Steubenville’s average income remains below state and national levels, this stronger-than-average growth rate points to real economic momentum — especially downtown, where business openings, events, and investment have been driving renewed energy.

What does this mean for our community?

  • Stronger local spending power: More income means more dollars spent in our restaurants, shops, and service businesses.

  • Confidence for entrepreneurs: Rising household stability helps attract new ventures and encourages local investment.

  • Downtown vitality: As incomes climb, so does interest in living, working, and enjoying life in Steubenville’s core.

For the Downtown Steubenville Business Association, these numbers are more than data points — they’re proof that the city’s revitalization is gaining real traction. Growth is happening, and opportunity is right here at home.
